artist: Ruth Liberman
Materials: Steel, typewriter film ribbon in plastic tubes, magnets, wire Three steel bars are suspended horizontally between three pairs of wire stretched from floor to ceiling. On the underside of the steel bars hang plastic tubes by small magnets attached to their tops. Inside the tubes are strips of typewriter film ribbon. Visitors are encouraged to take down the tubes, read the text, and put them back. The texts, scratched out of the film ribbons, are fragments of last letters written by people condemned to death during the “reign of terror” of the French Revolution.
